A Talking Epinephrine Injector?
Epinephrine auto-injectors (epinephrine pens) have assumed various designs and sizes over the last 20 years. Over this time, they have been invaluable life-saving tools for countless people with severe food and insect allergies. But patients have taught the manufactures, and us too, that epinephrine injectors must be easy to carry and even easier to use. The manufacturers have answered the call by routinely optimizing the ease of administration and trimming down the size of injectors so that they can be carried in pockets.
The FDA has now approved an new epinephrine auto- injector with voice instructions an innovative design resembling a small smart- phone. It is expected to be available in early 2013 and the manufacturers of this device are hoping this new design accomplishes both goals of simple administration and convenient portability.
